about
mandarin orange media and anna
Drawing from her childhood living as a third-culture kid in America, to her 28 years living as an expatriate, Anna weaves together her experiences and unique viewpoint into all her creative projects.
Anna was born in Seoul, Korea in 1971 to evangelical Christian missionary parents; a Swedish mother and Shanghainese father. Her family, which at the time included a brother three years older, relocated to the suburbs of Boston following her father’s U.S. speaking tour which was organized by World Vision.
At 17, after graduating from high school, Anna drove across America to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of working in film. Seven years later, in 1996, an opportunity arose to move to Hong Kong to work in sports television producing a Formula 1 show with her half-brother. His existence and that of his older brother, she learned of while spending the summer of her junior year of high school in Hong Kong. This move marked the beginning of a 20 year life and adventure in Asia and it is where, in Hong Kong and Singapore, she became the mother of three children.
In June of 2016 Anna moved country and continent again when she relocated with her three children to the suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa. Anna writes and records from her home in a small beachside community in the Deep South of Cape Town where she lives with her teens, their two rescue dogs and two cats, the elder of which, Fiona, came with them from Singapore in what feels like another lifetime.
