Podcasts improve our listening and analytical skills, promote conversation and respectful debate. They show us different viewpoints, inspire us, teach us, make us laugh and keep us engaged while helping to pass the time while traveling or doing menial chores. Mandarin Orange Media currently produces two podcasts hosted by Anna-Carin Hart, a short-form inspirational wellness podcast and a long-form interview podcast.

Foreign

“One of These Things” is a song from the children’s television program, Sesame Street. The intention is to give young viewers the opportunity to practice categorizing and sorting by selecting the one object that is not like the other objects. Children are asked to pick out the one item that is other, or foreign.

As we grow through the various stages of life we tend to focus more on what is foreign about us rather than the ways in which we belong. Moving to a new school, starting a job, joining a team, starting a family, getting a divorce, or losing someone close to us are all situations in which we can feel “other”.

Each week on the Foreign podcast, host Anna-Carin Hart welcomes a guest for an in-depth conversation about situations where guests have felt like the odd one out. The episodes are filled with stories that will make you laugh, sometimes cry, but most importantly, make you realize that maybe we aren’t so foreign after all.

Reframe

Anna created the “I get to” theory while working with a therapist on cognitive reframing of personal narrative in order to rewire neural pathways, reduce stress and heal from past trauma. In layman’s terms, Anna wanted to find a way to change her brain and emotional responses by learning how to be a glass half full instead of glass half empty thinker. This resulted in a more joyful, purposeful, and productive way to live as well as better relationships with the people Anna loves. In the first eight episodes of the Reframe Podcast, Anna uses personal stories and much humour to show how this theory can be easily applied to everyday life. In episodes nine and ten, listener share their stories on how they used the “I get to” theory.
